Online Rummy Games

Rummy is a card game that has been played for centuries now. This card game has seen a lot of revolution and has multiple variants to keep the rummy enthusiasts entertained. The versions of rummy games may change from time to time or place to place, but the essence of the game remains the same. Basically, all rummy games are card melding games, where a player tries to meld the cards in hand in the required number of valid sets and sequences.

With the advancement of technology, there has been a rise of online rummy, a rummy platform that can be accessed from anywhere and the game can be played anytime. While online rummy is the latest and most popular rummy version, nobody exactly knows the origin of rummy for sure.

There is a popular belief that rummy has evolved from ‘Conquian’, a game that finds its root in Mexico or Spain. This game originated in Spain and eventually moved to America, thanks to the Spanish immigrants. The game spread rapidly in America during the nineteenth century. Conquian is the game from which all rummy variants developed.

There is an Asian connection to rummy as well. In China, about a thousand years ago, there was a game called ‘Mahjong’. It had the same pick and drop style like rummy. According to this theory, rummy originated in China.

How to Play Rummy Online

Rummy is a skill-based card game that is usually played between 2-6 players. This card game can be played with one or two standard card decks, depending on the number of players. Each player is dealt with 13 cards that are to be melded in the required number of valid sets and sequences. A player who arranges all the cards in hand according to the game rules and makes a declaration, wins the game.

In Rummy, Kings, Queens, Jacks, and Aces are worth 10 points each, the numbered cards are worth their face value.

Objective of Rummy Game:

Before you start playing any game, you must be aware of the objectives of the game. The objective of the game is to meld all the cards in hand such that they form the required number of valid sets and sequences.

The following combination of sets and sequences can be considered as a valid declaration:

  • 2 sequences + 2 sets
  • 3 sequences + 1 set
  • All 4 sequences

Sequences are very important in rummy. For a valid declaration, you need at least 2 sequences, out of which one must be a pure sequence. The remaining cards can be melded as sequences or sets. Declaring without a pure sequence can cost you 80 points.

Rummy Rules:

If you want to know how to play rummy, you must be aware of all the rummy rules. To become a pro rummy player, you must know all the rummy rules and use your rummy skills to perfection. Not knowing rummy rules, especially those concerned with valid declarations, can lead you to embarrassing losses.

Following are Indian rummy rules to understand the game better:

  • Indian rummy is played between 2-6 players with one or two standard deck of cards. Two decks are used when there are more than 2 players. 13 cards are dealt to each player.
  • A wild joker is selected randomly and all cards of the same value become wild joker for that round.
  • During each turn, you need to draw or pick the card from the two available decks: closed deck and open deck. Once you pick a card, you will also need to discard one card. The cards in the closed deck are placed face down, while the ones in the open deck are placed face up.
  • To win a rummy game, you will need to arrange all the 13 cards in the required number of sets and sequences. Make sure that there are at least two sequences, out of which one is a pure sequence. Printed and wild card jokers can be used to make sets and impure sequences. The player who makes a valid declaration first, wins the game.
